Softball Recap: Andrews Gets the Win

For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Andrews and Hayesville meet (four straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Thursday. The Wildcats came out on top against the Yellowjackets by a score of 11-6. This was a revenge game for the Wildcats: when they faced off against the Yellowjackets back in March, they had to take a 14-5 defeat.

Lauren Cochran spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and three unearned) runs on eight hits.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Kaiya Ellis, who went 2-for-4 with four stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. That RBI marked the first that she has brought in this season. Chanteah Rattler was another key player, going 2-for-5 with four stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Andrews kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Andrews' first win this season bumped their record up to 1-9. As for Hayesville, they are on a nine-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-10.

Coming up, Andrews will square off against Hiwassee Dam at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Hayesville, they didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 15-3 loss against Robbinsville on the 25th.
