Football Game Preview: Hickory Hawks vs. Providence Day

If the MaxPreps state rankings hold true, the near future looks bright for Providence Day. They will look to defend their home turf on Thursday against Hickory Hawks at 7:30 PM. Providence Day are limping into the contest on a 3-game losing streak.

Providence Day received a tough blow last week as they fell 14-29 to North Stanly.

Meanwhile, after having lost a blowout to Southside Christian in their previous match, Hickory Hawks were happy to find some success. Hickory Hawks took the game and then some with a 54-6 win over Gladiator Sports Academy. Hickory Hawks were expected to win, but the margin was definitely larger than the state rankings had forecast.

Hickory Hawks's victory lifted them to 1-2 while Providence Day's defeat dropped them down to 0-3. In their victory, Hickory Hawks relied heavily on senior Tony Parks, who rushed for 140 yards and 3 touchdowns; a key strategy for Providence Day will lie in finding a way to minimize his impact.
