Basketball Recap: Layton Christian Academy Picks Up Ninth Consecutive Win

Layton Christian Academy came tearing into Tuesday's game with eight straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 25 points) and they left with even more momentum. Everything went their way against the Provo Bulldogs as they made off with a 74-49 victory. Given the Eagles' advantage in MaxPreps' Utah basketball rankings (they are ranked second, while the Bulldogs are ranked 28th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Layton Christian Academy's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Tyrin Jones, who went 6 of 11 to rack up 12 points in addition to eight rebounds and four blocks. Jones is also on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 45% in the last nine games he's played. Another player making a difference was Albert Ntungicimpaye, who went 6 for 8 en route to 17 points.

Layton Christian Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in five consecutive matchups.

Several Bulldogs players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Makai Allen, who posted 16 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Lucas Castagnetto, who scored ten points.

Layton Christian Academy pushed their record up to 17-8 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.9 points over those games. As for Provo, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-9.

Layton Christian Academy wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 48-25 win against Timpanogos on the 7th. As for Provo, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 74-66 victory against Mountain View on the 7th.
