Baseball Game Preview: Faith Christian Eagles vs. South Newton Rebels

For the second straight game, Faith Christian will face off against South Newton. The Eagles will venture away from home to face off against the Rebels at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.

Faith Christian took a 16-run loss the last time they faced off against South Newton, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Eagles won by a run and slipped past the Rebels 11-10. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Eagles' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.

For South Newton's part, Aidan Mattox put in work while hitting and pitching. He struck out 12 batters over 5.2 innings while giving up six earned (and four unearned) runs off three hits. Mattox was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, one triple, and one run.

In other batting news, Thomas Applegate was cooking despite his team's loss, earning two runs and three stolen bases. Cayden Martin was another key player, going 2-for-5 with one stolen base and one RBI.

South Newton dropped their record down to 0-8 with the defeat, which was their 16th straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Faith Christian, their record now sits at 2-4.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Faith Christian has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like South Newton struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.9 strikeouts.
