Basketball Recap: Newman AAA Starts Season with Win at Home

Newman AAA took care of business in their home opener (and then some) on Saturday. They blew past the Brimmer & May Gators 85-62. The Cardinals' offense checked out after the first half but had enough points banked to take the game anyway.

Newman AAA was led to victory by Quinn Costello and Jaylen Hunter-Coleman. Costello dropped a double-double with 17 points and 15 boards, while Hunter-Coleman went 9-for-12 en route to 17 points and seven rebounds. That's the most points Costello has posted since back in December of 2024. Louis O'Keefe was another key player, shooting 45% from the field to rack up 11 points and seven assists.

Newman AAA smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 13 consecutive contests dating back to last season.

Newman AAA has already played their next matchup (against Varsity Opponent), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. As for Brimmer & May, they and South Kent School will face off at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday without much rest, having both just played.
