Baseball Recap: Riverton Wins Going Away Against Lanphier

Riverton had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 18-run drubbing they dealt Lanphier on Friday. The Hawks were the clear victors by a 21-3 margin over the Lions. That looming 21-3 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Hawks yet this season.

Lucas Beatty and Tyler Meyer were major factors no matter where they played. On the mound, Beatty struck out six batters over three innings while giving up three earned runs off only two hits. Meanwhile, Meyer pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Riverton is 2-1 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 2-5 otherwise. At the plate, Beatty got on base in four of his five plate appearances with one stolen base and one run, while Meyer went 1-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one double. Those three runs gave Meyer a new career-high.

In other batting news, James Stevens was a standout: he went 3-for-4 with four runs, two stolen bases, and two doubles. Those doubles were his first of the season. Cole Howard was another key player, going 3-for-4 with four stolen bases, one triple, and two RBI.

Riverton always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .667. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Riverton is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-6 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.5 runs over those games.
