Basketball Recap: Rank Disadvantage No Problem for St. Mary's

St. Mary won the last time they faced West and things went their way on Friday too. The St. Mary's Rams rang in the new year with a 54-44 victory over the West Wolfpack. The win was all the more spectacular given the Rams' disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 345th, while the Wolfpack are ranked 126th).

St. Mary's had a senior duo take command as Vincent Arnaudo went 5 of 8 on his way to 11 points and five rebounds and William Weathington posted eight points along with five assists and five steals. The dominant performance gave Weathington a new career-high in steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Will Stephens, who put up seven points.

St. Mary's smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in three consecutive matches.

St. Mary's now has a winning record of 8-7. As for West, with the loss, they broke their ten-game winning streak and moved their record to 13-2.

St. Mary's will challenge Tracy at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. St. Mary's is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 56.1 points per game this season. As for West, they will square off against Chavez at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
