Basketball Recap: Diego Contreras' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Samueli Academy over Santa Ana Valley

Samueli Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat dating back to last season. They took a 48-40 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Santa Ana Valley Falcons. The Firewolves were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Falcons apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in November of 2024.

Samueli Academy's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Diego Contreras, who posted 12 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Christian Coughlin, who scored nine points.

Samueli Academy's loss dropped their record down to 0-5. As for Santa Ana Valley, they now have a winning record of 2-1.

Samueli Academy wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 67-36 defeat against Segerstrom on the 3rd. As for Santa Ana Valley, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 60-50 victory against Southlands Christian on the 2nd.
