Softball Recap: North Central Starts Season with Victory Against Richland Northeast

North Central had to kick off their season on the road on Friday, but they showed no ill effects. They were the clear victor by a 20-1 margin over the Richland Northeast Cavaliers. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Knights also won the last time the pair played back in March of 2023.

Josie Jackson made a splash no matter where she played. She pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Jackson was even better at the plate, going 3-for-4 with five RBI, three runs, and one triple.

In other batting news, Addie Bittner and Carleigh Wallace did most of the damage at the plate: Bittner went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI, while Wallace got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and one double. The dominant performance gave Wallace a new career-high in runs. Another player making a difference was Brooke Coates, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-1.

North Central always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .639. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Richland Northeast only posted an OBP of .200.

North Central will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Camden at 7:00 p.m. on March 12th. As for Richland Northeast, they will be playing at home against Columbia at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
