Softball Game Preview: Kingston Tigers vs. Monroe-Woodbury Crusaders

Kingston is 2-8 against Monroe-Woodbury since May of 2022 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Tigers will host the Crusaders at 4:15 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Kingston has six straight wins, Monroe-Woodbury has four straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Kingston let Saugerties stack eight runs on them in the fourth inning on Saturday but luckily Kingston prevailed anyway. The Tigers had just enough and edged out the Sawyers 10-9. The game was the first time the Tigers have beaten the Sawyers on their field since April 29, 2022.

Monroe-Woodbury couldn't beat Kingston last Wednesday even though they stacked four runs on them in the first inning. The Crusaders took a 9-5 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Tigers. While the Crusaders didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Tigers 4-0 in the first period.

Gabby Schaeffer was cooking despite her team's loss, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one double. That double marked the first that she has hit this season. Callie Exarchakis was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.

Kingston's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-6. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.7 runs over those games. As for Monroe-Woodbury, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-5.

Kingston was able to grind out a solid victory over Monroe-Woodbury in their previous meeting last Wednesday, winning 9-5. Do the Tigers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Crusaders turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
