Basketball Game Preview: Heritage Patriots vs. Fort Wayne Canterbury Cavaliers

The Heritage Patriots will head out on the road to take on the Fort Wayne Canterbury Cavaliers at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. One thing working in Heritage's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last three contests.

Last Saturday, Heritage made easy work of Eastside and carried off a 58-33 victory. With the Patriots ahead 35-11 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Heritage to victory, but perhaps none more so than Landon Lybarger, who went 5 for 12 en route to 16 points and seven rebounds. Those seven boards gave Lybarger a new career-high. Braden Walter was another key player, putting up 12 points and three steals.

Heritage smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in three consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Fort Wayne Canterbury had to suffer through a 83-41 loss at the hands of Fort Wayne Wayne. The Cavaliers haven't had much luck with the Generals recently, as the team's come up short the last seven times they've met.

Heritage will have to contain Reed Hayes as he made an impact in Fort Wayne Canterbury's last game. He posted 13 points in addition to four steals and three blocks. Another player making a difference was Sean Lukakingira, who earned ten points.

Heritage's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-6. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.3 points per game. As for Fort Wayne Canterbury, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 6-9.

Heritage couldn't quite finish off Fort Wayne Canterbury in their previous matchup back in February of 2024 and fell 55-52. Can Heritage avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
