Basketball Recap: Reed Pennington Key Part of a Team Effort in Bears Win

New Bern hadn't done well against South Central recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The New Bern Bears walked away with a 66-57 victory over the South Central Falcons. This was a revenge game for the Bears: when they faced off against the Falcons back in January, they had to take a 60-50 defeat.

New Bern got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Reed Pennington out in front who posted 12 points. What's more, Pennington also racked up three boards, the most he's had since back in November of 2024. Terry Riggins was another key player, putting up eight points and nine rebounds.

New Bern smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 11 consecutive games.

New Bern's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-7. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.7 points per game. As for South Central, the loss snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 10-8 record.

Coincidentally, New Bern and South Central will both be playing Northside - Jacksonville the next time they take the court. South Central will host Northside - Jacksonville at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, while New Bern will host them at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
