Basketball Recap: Buckeye Comes Up Short

Buckeye lost against Canyon View back in December of 2023 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Buckeye Hawks had to suffer through a 63-36 loss at the hands of the Canyon View Jaguars. While losing is never fun, the Hawks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 111th, while the Jaguars are ranked 26th).

Buckeye's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Amayah Leyva, who posted 12 points. Leyva is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last seven games she's played. Another player making a difference was Kiria Avila Escarcega, who scored 11 points and five rebounds.

Buckeye has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-9 record this season. As for Canyon View, they pushed their record up to 10-5 with the victory, which was their third straight at home.

Buckeye will host North Canyon at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Canyon View, they will head out to face off against Desert Edge at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Canyon View is facing Desert Edge at the right time seeing as Desert Edge is stuck on a six-game losing streak.
