Basketball Recap: North Montgomery Triumphs

North Montgomery won the last time they faced North Newton and things went their way on Friday too. The North Montgomery Chargin' Chargers rang in the new year with a 36-28 win over the North Newton Spartans. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Chargin' Chargers.

Piper Ramey was her usual excellent self, almost dropping a double-double on 18 points and nine boards. Another player making a difference was Caelyn Carpenter, who posted five points and three steals.

North Montgomery smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've posted since back in December of 2023.

When it comes to explaining why North Newton lost, don't look at June Busboom. Despite the final result, she earned 13 points and four steals. Busboom is trending in the right direction considering she's improved her point production for three straight games.

North Montgomery's victory bumped their record up to 12-4. As for North Newton, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-10 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. North Montgomery will challenge North Putnam at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. North Montgomery is facing North Putnam at the right time seeing as North Putnam is stuck on a five-game losing streak. As for North Newton, they will take on Tri-County at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Tri-County will roll in looking for their 13th straight win, something North Newton surely won't give up without a fight.
