Baseball Recap: North Putnam Find Success

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but North Putnam ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They had just enough and edged out the Owen Valley Patriots 5-3. That's more bragging rights for the Cougars, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Braxton Woodall was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two runs. He has become a key player for North Putnam: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 3-8 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Jayce Monnett, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run.

North Putnam's victory bumped their record up to 6-8. As for Owen Valley, their loss ended a six-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 9-2.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. North Putnam will take on Cloverdale at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Clovers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.07 runs per game on average), something the Cougars will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Owen Valley, they will square off against Cascade at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Cadets will roll in looking for their sixth straight win, something the Patriots surely won't give up without a fight.
