Baseball Recap: Fairmont Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for Fairmont, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Wednesday. They won by a run and slipped past the Archbishop Alter Knights 8-7. The victory continues a trend for the Firebirds in their matchups with the Knights: they've now won eight in a row.

Anderson Freels looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit.

At the plate, Fairmont let Tyler Mastro and Logan Doty run wild. Mastro scored two runs while going 2-for-4, while Doty scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2. Mastro has become a key player for Fairmont: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 1-3 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Joey Lanning, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-2.

Fairmont now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Archbishop Alter, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-3.

Fairmont will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Knights: the pair will be back at it again later today.
