Basketball Recap: Sunny Hills Takes a Loss

Sunny Hills fought the good fight in their overtime game against Esperanza on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 51-45 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Esperanza Aztecs. The Lancers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite the loss, Sunny Hills still got an impressive performance from Ze'Brien Watkins, who went 6 of 10 on his way to 18 points and five boards. That's the most points Watkins has posted since back in November of 2024. Another player making a difference was Kamron Tonga, who posted eight points and eight rebounds.

Esperanza's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jordan Fermin, who scored 14 points and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Jackson Fries, who had 12 points.

Sunny Hills' defeat dropped their record down to 15-9. As for Esperanza, they pushed their record up to 15-7 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Sunny Hills will head out to challenge El Modena at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Sunny Hills is facing El Modena at the right time seeing as El Modena is stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Esperanza, they will head out on the road to square off against Brea Olinda at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Esperanza is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 63.5 points per game this season.
