Basketball Game Preview: Independence Patriots vs. Gilbert Tigers

The Independence Patriots will challenge the Gilbert Tigers at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

Independence's tournament run continued when they took on Browne on Wednesday. The Patriots simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Bruins 79-46. The Patriots have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won three matchups by 23 points or more this season.

Independence had a senior duo take command as James Davis dropped a double-double with 25 points and ten rebounds and Anthony Colonna dropped a double-double with 19 points and ten assists. Those ten assists set a new season-high mark for Colonna. Another player making a difference was Rashaad Wilson, who posted nine points and three steals.

Independence smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in eight consecutive games dating back to last season.

Meanwhile, everything came up roses for Gilbert against ALA - Gilbert North on Wednesday as the squad secured a 65-24 victory. That 41 point margin sets a new team best for the Tigers this season.

Independence's win bumped their record up to 4-1. As for Gilbert, their victory bumped their record up to 3-1.
