Preview: Avery County Vikings vs. Swain County Maroon Devils
The Avery County Vikings will head out on the road to face off against the Swain County Maroon Devils at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Avery County will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 324th, while Swain County is ranked 73rd).
Last Friday, Avery County suffered a rough 48-28 loss at the hands of Mitchell. Avery County was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 34-7.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Logan Wayne Brown, who rushed for 70 yards and a touchdown. Another player making a difference was Grayson Hoilman, who rushed for 56 yards and a touchdown on only five carries.
Meanwhile, Swain County unfortunately witnessed the end of their nine-game winning streak on Friday. They fell to Robbinsville 14-8. The matchup was a 8-8 toss-up at halftime, but Swain County couldn't answer the 6 points Robbinsville scored afterwards.
Avery County has been struggling recently, as they've lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-6 record this season. As for Swain County, their loss dropped their record down to 9-1.
Avery County ended up a good deal behind Swain County in their previous matchup back in November of 2014, losing 28-14. Can Avery County avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
