Basketball Recap: Sterling Takes a Loss

If Sterling was feeling good fresh off their 51-26 takedown of Milby last Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Sterling Raiders had to suffer through a 75-24 loss at the hands of the Buna Cougars. The match marked the Raiders' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Despite the loss, Sterling still got an impressive performance from Destiny Lewis, who posted 18 points and four steals. The contest was Lewis' 16th in a row with at least ten points.

Buna's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kelsey Burton led the charge by going 7 of 13 on her way to 16 points and three steals. The dominant performance gave Burton a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Madisyn Cotten, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 11 boards.

Sterling has traveled a rocky road recently having lost eight of their last ten games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-10 record this season. As for Buna, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 14-8 record this season.

Sterling wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 37-32 loss against Wheatley on the 26th. As for Buna, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 48-40 win against Lee on the 27th.
