Basketball Recap: Poly Falls Despite Big Games from Brianna Pope and London Elliot

After flying high against Benjamin Franklin last Thursday, Poly came back down to earth. The Poly Engineers took a 60-55 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Ursuline Academy Raiders. While losing is never fun, the Engineers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 73rd in Maryland, while the Raiders are ranked fourth in Delaware).

Poly's loss on Saturday came despite strong showings from London Elliot and Brianna Pope. Elliot posted 18 points along with six boards and three steals, while Pope almost dropped a double-double on 19 points and nine rebounds. The dominant performance gave Elliot a new career-high in points.

With the defeat, Poly broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 9-7. As for Ursuline Academy, the win got them back to even at 8-8.

Poly will square off against McDonough on Monday. Poly is facing McDonough at the right time seeing as McDonough is stuck on a three-game losing streak. Ursuline Academy has already played their next game (against Caravel), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
