Basketball Recap: Hawthorne Comes Up Short

If Hawthorne was riding high fresh off their 52-13 takedown of Union County on Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Hornets took a 38-23 bruising from the Eastside Rams on Wednesday. The Hornets were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Rams apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January.

Eastside's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Keyauri O'Neal, who posted four points and nine steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Zion Suggs, who put up seven points and seven steals.

Hawthorne's loss dropped their record down to 3-3. As for Eastside, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-6.

Looking ahead, Hawthorne will be home for the holidays to greet St. John Lutheran at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Eastside, they won't have much time to rest: their next game is against P.K. Yonge at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Rams will be up against the Blue Wave's rather soft defense (which has allowed 56.71 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
