Softball Recap: Great Bend Extends Home Winning Streak to 11

Great Bend hadn't done well against Garden City recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Panthers never let the Buffaloes get on the board and left with a 5-0 win. The Panthers haven't had any issues with the Buffaloes recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.

Chayla Prendergast was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out 11 over seven innings pitched. Those 11 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.

In other batting news, Katherine Mazouch was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run and two runs. Another player making a difference was DeShawnna Bryant, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

Great Bend was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .433. They are a perfect 14-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Great Bend pushed their record up to 16-3 with the win, which was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Garden City, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 5-1.

Great Bend will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Buffaloes: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
