Baseball Game Preview: Mt. Vernon Rams vs. Centralia Orphans

The Mt. Vernon Rams are taking a road trip to square off against the Centralia Orphans at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Centralia took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Mt. Vernon, who comes in off a win.

Mt. Vernon gave up the first runs on Saturday, but they didn't let that get them down. They skirted past Highland 5-4. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Rams as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

Maxwell Nowak looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. He has become a key player for Mt. Vernon: the team is undefeated when he allows at most one hit, but 10-19 otherwise.

At the plate, Mt. Vernon saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ryker Perigo, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Centralia came up short against Effingham on Monday, falling 13-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Orphans have suffered against the Hearts since May 18, 2019.

Mt. Vernon's win bumped their record up to 13-19. As for Centralia, their defeat dropped their record down to 16-13.

Mt. Vernon couldn't quite finish off Centralia when the teams last played on May 7th and fell 9-7. Can the Rams avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
