Basketball Game Preview: Ashland-Greenwood Bluejays vs. Platteview Trojans

Ashland-Greenwood hasn't had much luck against Platteview recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Ashland-Greenwood Bluejays will take on the Platteview Trojans at 5:30 p.m. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this game.

Last Thursday, Ashland-Greenwood was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 36-31 to Nebraska City. The Bluejays have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Meanwhile, Platteview was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Saturday as they fell 52-48 to Gross Catholic.

Despite the loss, Platteview saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Alexys Mandel posted 12 points and seven rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Brea Weldon, who put up five points and three steals.

Even though they lost, Platteview smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 13 offensive rebounds in four consecutive contests.

Platteview's defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 3-7. That patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 50.7 points per game. As for Ashland-Greenwood, their loss dropped their record down to 3-9.

Ashland-Greenwood strolled past Platteview when the teams last played back in February of 2024 by a score of 53-39. The rematch might be a little tougher for Ashland-Greenwood since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
