Football Recap: Discovery Takes a Loss

Discovery had lost 11 straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Friday they dropped down to 0-8 to make it 12. They were beaten by the Umatilla Bulldogs 71-0. While losing is never fun, the Spartans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida football rankings (they are ranked 553rd, while the Bulldogs are ranked 265th).

As for Umatilla, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 8-0. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 6.5 points on average this season.

It was another big night for Ray Jenkins, who threw for 144 yards and three TDs. Bryce Norflee was in the mix too, providing Umatilla with three touchdowns.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Discovery will look to takes advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they takes on Avon Park at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Umatilla, they will square off against Taylor at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Bulldogs will be up against the Wildcats' rather soft defense (which has allowed 33.5 points per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
