Baseball Recap: Greeley Central Comes Up Short

Greeley Central extended their losing streak to 13 on Saturday, dropping their season record down to 1-17 in the process. They came up short against the Thompson Valley Eagles, falling 12-2. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Greeley Central saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Angel Lopez-Meza, who went 1-for-3 with one triple and two RBI.

As for Thompson Valley, they moved to 8-11 with that win, which also ended their three-game losing streak. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

On Thompson Valley's side, Evan Raabe made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 14 over 4.2 innings pitched. Raabe also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Thompson Valley is 5-2 when he allows at most three earned runs, but 3-9 otherwise. Raabe was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with four stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Thompson Valley got a massive performance out of Sam Engelland, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Engelland has become a key player for the Eagles: the team is 4-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 4-10 otherwise. Cameron Denning also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

While Greeley Central had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair will be back at it again later today.
