Baseball Recap: Union City Takes Down Northfield in a Playoff Battle

Union City extended their postseason success on Saturday against Northfield. They were the clear victors by a 12-0 margin over the Norsemen. The Indians might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten matches by six runs or more this season.

Jayson Connor was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits over five innings pitched. What's more, he posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with four runs. Union City is 9-2 when Connor posts two or more runs, but 4-9 otherwise.

In other batting news, Luke Collins was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. He has become a key player for Union City: the team is 6-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 7-10 otherwise. Trendon Spence was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

The victory (which was Union City's fourth in a row) raised their record to 13-11. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Northfield, with the defeat, they broke their four-game winning streak and moved their record to 14-17.

Coming up, Union City will take on Kouts on Saturday. The Indians' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Mustangs & Fillies have averaged an impressive 10.2 runs per game this season. Northfield does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
