Softball Game Preview: South Lake Eagles vs. Foundation Academy Lions

The South Lake Eagles will head out to challenge the Foundation Academy Lions at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.

On Friday, South Lake came up short against Ocoee and fell 9-4. That's two games in a row now that the Eagles have lost by exactly five runs.

Zoe Sheffield was cooking despite her team's loss, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double.

Even though they lost, South Lake hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most five strikeouts in four consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Foundation Academy didn't have quite enough to beat Mount Dora Christian Academy on Friday and fell 7-6. The Lions have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Foundation Academy saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Riley Winters, who went 1-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI Winters has posted since back in March of 2024. Sophia Smith was another, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.

Foundation Academy's record is now 6-4. As for South Lake, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-8 record this season.

South Lake came out on top in a nail-biter against Foundation Academy when the teams last played back in April of 2024, sneaking past 6-4. The rematch might be a little tougher for South Lake since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
