Baseball Recap: Gates County Red Barons vs. North Moore Mustangs
It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Gates County had no problem doing just that on Tuesday. They put the hurt on the North Moore Mustangs with a sharp 9-3 win. This was payback for the Red Barons, who suffered an 8-1 loss the last time these two teams met.
Tyler Cabral made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched 6.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off nine hits. Cabral was even better at the plate, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March of 2024.

In other batting news, Lyric Pittman was incredible, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and three runs. Gates County is 7-1 when Pittman posts two or more runs, but 1-13 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Justin Powell, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI and one double.
Gates County moved to 8-14 with that victory, which also ended their three-game losing streak. As for North Moore, they now have a losing record of 10-11.
Looking ahead, Gates County will challenge Chatham Charter on Friday. The Red Barons' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Knights have averaged an impressive 7.3 runs per game this season. North Moore does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
