Basketball Recap: Caitlyn Jackson's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Hilton Head Christian Academy over Patrick Henry Academy

Hilton Head Christian Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat. They were six points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 40-34 heartbreaker at the hands of the Patrick Henry Academy Patriots. The Eagles were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Patriots apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2022.

Several Eagles players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Caitlyn Jackson, who posted five points along with five boards and four steals. The dominant performance also gave Jackson a new career-high in assists (four). Another player making a difference was Macey Langhals, who went 5 for 10 on her way to 10 points and six rebounds.

Even though they lost, Hilton Head Christian Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.

Patrick Henry Academy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Lillian Lucas led the charge by dropping a double-double on 15 points and ten boards. That makes it six consecutive games in which Lucas has scored at least a third of Patrick Henry Academy's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Laney Futch, who had six points in addition to ten rebounds and three steals.

Hilton Head Christian Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 4-11. As for Patrick Henry Academy, their win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-5.

Hilton Head Christian Academy has already played their next match (against John Paul II), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Patrick Henry Academy will take on Colleton Prep Academy at 6:00 p.m. on January 28th.
