Softball Recap: Stockton Comes Up Short in High-Profile Match with Miller

Stockton faced Miller in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Tigers fell just short of the Cardinals by a score of 3-1. Having soared to a lofty 13 runs in the game before, the Tigers couldn't push the score so high this time.

Ellie Pettit spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on nine hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 16 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Gracie Abercrombie made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one home run. She is on a roll when it comes to home runs, as she's now launched at least one in each of the last five games she's played.

Stockton's defeat dropped their record down to 16-8. As for Miller, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-4 record this season.

Stockton will face off against Fair Grove at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. Miller does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
