Baseball Recap: Stafford Takes a Loss

Boling hit Stafford with a six-run seventh inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Spartans took an 8-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Bulldogs. The Spartans have struggled against the Bulldogs recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost meeting.

Maxwell Frels put in work no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. Stafford is 9-1 when Frels posts two or more runs, but 4-7 otherwise.

Frels wasn't the only one making solid contact as seven players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Johnny Balamonte, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI.

Stafford's loss dropped their record down to 13-8. As for Boling, the win got them back to even at 13-13.

As of now, neither Stafford nor the Bulldogs have any future games scheduled.
