Softball Recap: East Limestone Takes a Loss

East Limestone fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Florence on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Florence Falcons by a score of 5-4. The Indians were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Falcons earlier this season, when they won 3-2.

East Limestone got a good showing from Abby Thompson, who pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. What's more, Thompson posted four strikeouts, the most she's had over her last four contests.

At the plate, Scarlett Brown made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That home run was her first of the season. Kailey Matthews was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4.

This is the second loss in a row for East Limestone and nudges their season record down to 9-3. Even worse, they were so close so many times: the defeats came by an average of only one runs. As for Florence, their win ended a five-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 3-8.

Coming up, East Limestone will welcome Priceville at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Florence, they will head out to challenge Russellville at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
