Baseball Game Preview: Mapleton Mounties vs. Plymouth Big Red

For the second straight game, Mapleton will face off against Plymouth. The Mounties will square off against the Big Red at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Mapleton has given up an average of 9.1 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Plymouth hit Mapleton with a six-run second inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Mounties lost 13-3 to the Big Red. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Mounties have suffered against the Big Red since April 3, 2017.

For Plymouth's part, Lex Grose made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. Grose was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one home run, six RBI, and two runs.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jarrett Burrer, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI. Keegan Beverly was another key player, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with three runs and one RBI.

Plymouth's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-5. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Mapleton, their loss dropped their record down to 4-8.
