Softball Recap: Washington's Win Ends 13-Game Losing Streak at Home

Washington had lost 13 games at home dating back to last season, but after bumping their record up to 2-16 on Monday that streak is in the rearview. Everything went their way against the Shoals Jug Rox as they made off with a 12-2 victory. The high-scoring effort was just what the Hatchets needed considering they were shut out in their previous match.

Katie Reed made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits (and only one walk). Those six strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one home run and four RBI.

In other batting news, Ellycia Shartzer was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Braleigh Armes was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Washington was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .448. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Shoals only posted a batting average of .211.

As for Shoals, they are on a 12-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-11. Having soared to a lofty 15 runs in the game before, they couldn't push the score so high this time.

On Shoals' side, they saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Abbi Rollins, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. Rollins has been hot recently, having posted at least one triple the last three times she's played. Hannah Cook also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Washington will challenge South Spencer at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Shoals, they will square off against West Washington at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Jug Rox's pitchers better be ready for this one: the Senators have averaged an impressive 8.9 runs per game this season.
