Basketball Recap: Lone Star Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Aimee Trejo and Jade Kuntz

If Lone Star was riding high fresh off their 53-23 takedown of Weldon Valley back in December of 2024, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Lone Star Longhorns came up short against the Hi-Plains Patriots on Friday, falling 59-34. The matchup marked the Longhorns' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Lone Star's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Jade Kuntz, who posted 14 points in addition to seven steals and six assists, and Aimee Trejo, who scored 13 points and seven boards. Kuntz has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last six times she's played.

Hi-Plains was led to victory by Cambria Seaman and Kennedy Henschel. Seaman went 6 for 12 on her way to 14 points along with seven steals and six rebounds, while Henschel went 10 of 16 en route to 22 points and seven boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Maggie Gorton, who put up nine points and seven rebounds.

Lone Star dropped their record down to 4-3 with the defeat, which was their third straight on the road. As for Hi-Plains, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-3.

Lone Star wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 55-23 win against Deer Trail on the 11th. As for Hi-Plains, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 49-28 loss against Idalia on the 11th.
