Basketball Recap: John Cooper Key Part of Team Effort in Lions Win

Trinity Christian's tournament run continued when they took on Emerson on Friday. The Lions snuck past the Mavericks with a 69-63 victory. Given the Lions' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 67th, while the Mavericks are ranked 434th) , the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Trinity Christian's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was John Cooper, who shot 69% from the field on his way to 18 points and eight rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Calvin Gilbert, who went 6-for-8 to rack up 13 points and seven boards.

Trinity Christian was working as a unit and finished the game with 18 assists. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their assist total in three consecutive games.

Trinity Christian's victory bumped their record up to 12-4. As for Emerson, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-10.

Trinity Christian didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 62-58 win against Frisco on the 13th. As for Emerson, they have also already played their next contest, a 70-58 victory against Temple on the 13th.
