Softball Recap: Oak Grove Victorious

Oak Grove took a 12-run loss the last time they faced off against Silver Creek, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Eagles sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 13-12 win over the Raiders on Friday. The Eagles' offense finally found a way to get into gear: the high-octane performance was a 180-degree turn from their last six games.

Oak Grove let Alyssa Schuster and Helena Cortez run wild. Schuster scored a run and stole two bases while going 4-for-4, while Cortez got on base in three of her four plate appearances with four RBI, one run, and one double. Those four hits gave Schuster a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Aolani Cortes, who scored two runs while going 3-for-5.

Oak Grove hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in three consecutive matches.

Oak Grove's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-6. As for Silver Creek, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-9 record this season.

Oak Grove will face off against Del Mar at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Eagles are facing the Dons at the right time seeing as the Dons are stuck on a nine-game losing streak. As for Silver Creek, they will take on Washington at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Raiders' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Huskies have averaged an impressive 6.6 runs per game this season.
