Basketball Recap: Arrupe Jesuit Generals vs. Englewood Pirates
The Arrupe Jesuit Generals won the last time they faced the Englewood Pirates, and things went their way on Thursday too. Arrupe Jesuit came out on top against the Pirates by a score of 57-46. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Arrupe Jesuit.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Arrupe Jesuit to victory, but perhaps none more so than Karen Alvarez, who scored 22 points along with six steals. Alvarez is crushing the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Atany Peter was another key contributor, scoring 17 points along with three steals.
Englewood lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Jonae Harris, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 17 rebounds. Harris is crushing the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Alex Harkness, who scored 11 points along with three steals.
Even though they lost, Englewood smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 21 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Arrupe Jesuit only pulled down 12 offensive rebounds.
Arrupe Jesuit's victory bumped their record up to 7-9. As for Englewood, their loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 6-11.
Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Bruce Randolph the next time they take the court. Englewood will host Bruce Randolph at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, while Arrupe Jesuit will head out to face them at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
