After flying high against Cleveland on Friday, Caney Creek came back down to earth. The Caney Creek Panthers took a 7-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the New Caney Eagles on Saturday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Panthers of the 5-3 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.

Avery Castaneda was huge no matter where she played even without the win. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching six innings while giving up just two earned (and five unearned) runs off six hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.
