Softball Game Preview: Mt. Shasta Bears vs. Portola Tigers

The Mt. Shasta Bears will square off against the Portola Tigers at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Mt. Shasta heads in on the heels of a playoff match on Tuesday. They lost 13-0 to East Nicolaus. The Bears have struggled against the Spartans recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost meeting.

Meanwhile, Portola came up short against Quincy on Tuesday, falling 14-4.

Ainsleigh Pruitt was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two doubles, and one run. Another player making a difference was Kylie Morton, who earned one run and four stolen bases.

Portola has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 16-11-1 record this season. As for Mt. Shasta, their loss dropped their record down to 13-12-1.

Mt. Shasta couldn't quite finish off Portola in their previous meeting back in March of 2023 and fell 7-5. Can the Bears avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
