Volleyball Recap: Marshall's Winning Streak Snapped at Seven Games

After a string of seven wins, Marshall's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They fell just short of the Newton Eagles by a score of 2-1. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Lions of the 2-0 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in October of 2024.

Marshall started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last two. The match finished with set scores of 20-25, 25-18, 25-19.

Harper Richardson paced Marshall's offense, picking up 11 kills. Richardson got some help from Addy Ross and her 15 assists. Finally, McKenzie Davis kept Marshall's defense grounded, leading the team with two blocks.

Marshall's loss dropped their record down to 19-7. As for Newton, their win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 15-11.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Marshall will head out to take on Casey-Westfield at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Newton, they will venture away from home to challenge Teutopolis at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
