Softball Recap: Grosse Pointe North Takes a Loss

Grosse Pointe North extended their losing streak to seven on Saturday, dropping their season record down to 5-11 in the process. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 5-4 heartbreaker at the hands of the L'Anse Creuse North Crusaders. If the Norsemen were looking for revenge after losing 10-8 to the Crusaders when the teams met back in May of 2021, then they'll just have to keep looking.

As for L'Anse Creuse North, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight games. That's provided a massive bump to their 9-9 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.4 runs over those games.

For L'Anse Creuse North's part, Brylee Bradley and Sydney Browning dominated on the mound. Bradley tossed three innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits, while Browning tossed four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits. Browning has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up a single walk any time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, Lily Smeltzer was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one double. That stolen base marked the first that she has snagged this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Hailee Lane, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.

While Grosse Pointe North had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair will be back at it again later today.
