Softball Recap: Mammoth Spring Bears vs. Sloan-Hendrix Greyhounds
Mammoth Spring extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 17 on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 0-15 in the process. They lost 14-1 to the Sloan-Hendrix Greyhounds. The Bears were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Greyhounds apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in March of 2019.
As for Sloan-Hendrix, their win ended a five-game drought on the road and puts them at 9-9. The result was nothing new for the Greyhounds, who have now won six matches by seven runs or more so far this season.
For Sloan-Hendrix's part, Lauren Jones made a splash no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over four innings pitched. Jones has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Rylee Brown was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with six stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in March. Rylee Bennett was another key player, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with three runs and one RBI.
Mammoth Spring does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Sloan-Hendrix, they will be playing at home against Hillcrest at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
