Baseball Recap: Laughlin Comes Up Short

After flying high against Round Mountain last Friday, Laughlin came back down to earth. The Cougars came up short against the Tonopah Muckers on Thursday, falling 21-11. The Cougars were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Muckers earlier this season, when they won 1-0.

Gavin Davis and Adrian Ruiz did some serious damage despite the final result: Davis went a perfect 3-for-3 with eight stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI, while Ruiz went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, five RBI, and two runs. Ruiz is becoming a predictor of Laughlin's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 5-2 (and 2-3 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Israel Trejo, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Laughlin's defeat dropped their record down to 7-5. As for Tonopah, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-9.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: the Muckers beat Laughlin by a score of 7-3 later that day.
