Baseball Recap: Hart Takes a Loss

Hart extended their losing streak to four on Friday, dropping them down to 10-12-1. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 9-8 heartbreaker at the hands of the Castaic Coyotes. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Coyotes this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 7-5 on Wednesday.

Hayden Rhodes was cooking despite his team's loss, firing off two home runs, five RBI, and three runs while going 3-for-4. He is becoming a predictor of Hart's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 3-1 (and 7-11-1 when he doesn't). Matthew Perez was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one double and one RBI.

As for Castaic, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 17-8 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.7 runs over those games.

On Castaic's side, their win was truly a team effort as eight different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Orion Gonzalez, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with one home run and two RBI. Another was Bryson Nieuwkoop, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one double.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Hart will face off against Granada Hills Charter at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Castaic, they will take on Canyon at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
