Baseball Recap: Soldotna Comes Up Short

Soldotna came into their game on Friday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They lost 10-4 to the Service Cougars. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Cougars this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 15-7 last Wednesday.

Soldotna saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Matthew Schilling, who went 1-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base. Schilling is becoming a predictor of the Stars' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 1-7-2 when he doesn't).

Soldotna's defeat dropped their record down to 3-8-2. As for Service, the victory keeps they at an undefeated 9-0.

Soldotna didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 3-0 loss against Eagle River on the 2nd. As for Service, they will venture away from home to face off against South Anchorage at 5:15 p.m. on Wednesday.
