Preview: Portsmouth Trojans vs. South Point Pointers

Portsmouth is 2-8 against South Point since January of 2020 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Portsmouth Trojans will head out on the road to square off against the South Point Pointers at 7:30 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Portsmouth scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. They came out on top against Ironton by a score of 92-85. Winning may never get old, but Portsmouth sure is getting used to it with their fourth in a row.

Deandre Berry was his usual excellent self, almost dropping a double-double on 38 points and nine assists. He hasn't dropped below two steals for eight straight games. isaiah lewis was another key contributor, scoring 19 points along with six rebounds.

In what's become a running theme this season, South Point gave their fans yet another huge win on Tuesday. They were the clear victor by a 69-46 margin over Gallia Academy. Given South Point's advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 155th, while Gallia Academy is ranked 515th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Portsmouth is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 13-5 record this season. As for South Point, their win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-5.

Portsmouth was taken down by South Point 83-49 in their previous meeting back in January. The contest was all but decided by halftime, at which point Portsmouth was down 47-23.
