Football Recap: Brody Barksdale Leads Cornerstone Christian's Defense on Friday

After flying high against Victory Christian two weeks ago, Cornerstone Christian came back down to earth. The Eagles fell 46-41 to the Jacksonville Christian Academy Thunder on Friday. The Eagles have struggled against the Thunder recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.

Loss or not, Cornerstone Christian got some senior leadership from Colby Harrison and Jess Nelson. Harrison rushed for 196 yards and two scores while picking up 10.9 yards per carry, while Nelson rushed for 175 yards and three TDs while picking up 10.9 yards per carry. With that strong performance, Harrison is now averaging an impressive 112.8 rushing yards per game.

Even if they lost, Cornerstone Christian's defensive line still kept up the pressure with four sacks. Brody Barksdale was especially locked on to Jacksonville Christian Academy's QB and sacked him twice. Barksdale has been hot for a while, having also posted five or more total tackles the last nine times he's played.

The defeat was their first on the road , dropping their record down to 4-2. As for Jacksonville Christian Academy, the victory snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 5-3 record.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Cornerstone Christian will face off against Alabama School for the Deaf at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Jacksonville Christian Academy, they will square off against Tabernacle at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
